Internet Safety Guide

The internet is a great place for learning and fun, but you need to stay safe.

Here are a few tips to help you:

Stay Private

Never give out personal information like your name, address, phone number, the name of your school or even your email address.

Don't send pictures of yourself, your family, or your home to people you meet online.

Never write back to someone who has made you feel uncomfortable or scared. Just log off and tell your parents

Never meet anyone or have them visit you!

(People you meet online may not be who they say they are. That 12-year old girl you know on the internet may not really be 12, and may not even be a girl!)

Keep your passwords private. Don't even tell your friends.

Computer Safety

Don't open unknown e-mail attachments - just delete them. They can contain computer viruses that will not only harm your computer, but can spread to all your friends computers.

Always check for viruses and spyware before installing anything on your computer. That cool game could destroy your computer, or even be quietly sending your passwords back to someone.

If things get scary or strange just log off.

When in doubt ask your parents.
